Another successful Messy Church event was held on 8th June. Parents and children learned about the importance of being part of a family.
Cradle Roll Service – 15th June 2014
The congregation were pleased to welcome back all babies which had been baptised in the past year. They received their cradle roll certificates from Grace Chambers, one of our long standing Elders.

A delightful evening was held on Friday night as many people from the local community and our congregation enjoyed a Daffodil Tea in the St John’s Hall. A range of acts took part showcasing local talent.
A visit from Canon Mark Oakley from St Paul’s Cathedral. We were blessed to have him share in our communion service, which included new Communicants, and enjoyed an interview between Canon Oakley and Mark Carruthers on Sunday evening with other members of the Ormeau Churches Community.

Treasure Island Holiday Bible Club
An action packed week with many children attending to find out more about God’s word in a fun and interactive way.
Walking group visit to Rathlin Island
Last Saturday the walking group enjoyed a visit to Rathlin Island on a gloriously sunny day. They were even lucky enough to see some puffins and a seal!
A very successful art exhibition, including pieces from over 30 local artists, was held from 15th-19th May 2013. The exhibition was opened by Lorna Hamilton, an acclaimed local wildlife artist. Over £5,000 was raised for the Halls Redevelopment Fund.
Christian Aid Lunch – 12th May 2013
Members of the congregation joined together for our annual Bread and Cheese lunch.
Installation of Rev. Anne Tolland – 26th April 2013
The service of installation for our new minister, Rev. Anne Tolland, took place in the Church on Friday 26th April 2013. We were delighted that members of her former church Cairncastle and the Ballynafeigh Clergy Fellowship, were able to share in this special service with us.

Our Nativity – ‘Shine Star Shine’ – was performed during Morning Worship on Sunday 16 December 2012. The boys and girls were fantastic, as were our young musicians who accompanied the Sunday School during the songs!
The Lunch Club enjoyed their Christmas Lunch on Wednesday 12 December 2012.
The Cubs visited the PW on Monday 10 December 2012.
Strictly Come Dancing – 30th October 2012
Eight couples in our congregation took part in ‘Newtownbreda does Strictly Come Dancing’ at La Mon Hotel & Country Club during the Autumn Half-Term Holiday after 9 weeks of dance lessons with Victoria McAdoo, Proprietor of First Dance NI. Here are some of the photos from the fundraising event which has so far raised over £4,000 for our Halls Redevelopment Fund.
Presentation to Rev Jane Nelson – 28th October 2012
We were delighted to welcome Jane back to Newtownbreda on Sunday 28 October 2012 to lead our evening worship. Many of the congregation joined Jane afterwards for a cuppa and our Clerk of Session, Bruce Robinson, presented Jane with a gift to mark our thanks for her period with us as an Assistant Minister.
Autumn Fête – 29th September 2012
This has become a really popular event, with friends and family of the congregation and with the local community! Newtownbreda Strollers – Summer 2012
During the Summer months, an all-age group from the congregation enjoyed fellowship and the beauty of some of our local countryside – visiting a number of spots in County Down, from Ballynafeigh to the Mournes – click here to see some photos from the outings!
Pete and his team of volunteer leaders hosted another fantastic Summer Scheme during August… with an Olympic theme. Over 35 kids enjoyed arts & crafts, quizzes, games, songs, memory verses and other fun activities during the week.
Evening of celebration to mark Rev Orr’s retirement 25th May 2012
Members of the congregation joined with local clergy, family and friends for an evening of food, fellowship, dancing and celebration to mark Rev Orr’s 29 years of service to Newtownbreda and the local area.
Festival of Flowers ~ 18th ~ 20th May 2012
Members of NIGFAS joined forces with a committee made up of members of our congregation to co-ordinate and deliver a fantastic Festival of Flowers enjoyed by visitors from the local community and from throughout Northern Ireland. The event was organised as a tribute to Mrs Doreen Adams, a founding member of NIGFAS and a long-standing member of our own congregation.

It’s been a busy few weeks in the run up to Christmas – this slideshow includes photos from the Ladies Advent morning, McPeake Family concert (including students from Sullivan Upper School), the Cubs singing carols to the ladies in PW and the Christingle Tea following the Service of 9 lessons and carols.
Harvest Celebration Service & Lunch – 9th October 2011
We celebrated Harvest on Sunday 09 October – a group of enthusiastic floral artists and helpers decorated the Church for the Service, after which many of us shared a lovely lunch in the Church Halls. Members of the congregation distributed flowers, fruit and vegetables to elderly and infirm members of the local community after the event.

This was the second year of our August Summer Scheme and it was a great success with thirty kids from our community joining us to learn about the story of Paul
GLU – God Loves You – July 2011
Members of our congregation joined with others from the Ballynafeigh area for this week-long community event in July, with participants helping with a tea-dance, graffiti removal, litter-picking and garden clean-ups!

A hugely successful church weekend was held in Greenhill YMCA, Newcastle. All who went enjoyed a jam packed couple of days with many trying activities for the first time!

Flower Demonstration – 3rd December 2010
Asante ran a flower demonstration by Alan Beattie to raise money for the Halls Redevelopment Fund. An auction of the beautiful arrangements created allowed a number of those present to continuing admiring them at home.
Harvest Lunch 10th October 2010
Congregational Lunch following the Harvest Thanksgiving Service. A time to share some food and fellowship rather than rushing off home and an opportunity for all to get to know each other a little better.
St John’s Got Talent 27th March 2010

GLU – God Loves You Tuesday 6th July until Saturday 10th July 2010.
Once again we are looking for volunteers of all ages to help with our outreach to the Ballynafeigh area. Last year we cleared up loads of gardens, painted quite a few fences and washed stacks of cars, not to mention the craft demos, community cafes and mural painting. We want to make this year even bigger and better, and to do that we need YOUR help!
This project is for people of all ages – we need all sorts of talents and abilities. Last year our volunteers ranged from 8 to 80 and we’re happy to have you even if you fall outside that bracket!
Men and women from all different backgrounds found out how much you get back when you put a little in. This is your opportunity to shape your own way of showing God’s love!

Installation of Ecumenical Canons
The first ever Ecumenical Canons of St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast were installed on Palm Sunday, 28 March 2010. The Revd Wilfred Orr Minister of St John’s Presbyterian Church, Newtownbreda, Belfast, and the Revd Ivan McElhenney, a former President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, Minister of Joanmount Methodist Church, Belfast.
13th September 2009 we held a special service to Ordain and Install new elders in our congregation.

Ormeau Churches Together Habitat Trip to Zambia July 2009
A party travelled to Zambia in July 09 to build houses. Members from four Churches in the Ballynafeigh area were involved in the project.
